Mission Malawi 4 - Departing May 2010
The team from Mission Malawi 4.
Malawi is known as the 'Warm Heart of Africa. It is anincredible country, with beautiful people, many of whom are living in incredibly difficult circumstances. Not least the fact that 1 in 7 people in Malawi is living with HIV/AIDS and someone dies every 9 minutes from AIDS related illness. I will be going out to take part in a 15 day challenge we will be cycling over 500km (300 miles) through Malawi and Mozambique . We will visit several projects that we have helped to fund. Please give what you can, and we'll do our best to raise even more money for what is a really important issue. Your donations mean a lot to me and will be going to help the people of Malawi build a better future. Sponsor me |
Antoin StrachanI’ve now lived in London for almost 10 years, I've travelled a lot but never been to Africa. I was a professional performer for 16 years but I now work as an events manager for an internet company. After listening to one of my colleagues talk about the mission of the charity, the challenge of the ride and also the camaraderie of all the participants, I was hooked as it’s a great cause. I decided to do my bit and not only raise funds, but also help to raise awareness amongst all my friends. I have been "heavily" soliciting my friends and there are two other colleagues taking part, we’ve also decided to raise funds and make a donation through the company as well. We’re doing collections and promoting at events in London and abroad. Our company's website also reaches hundreds of thousands of people and we hope to get their support too! |
Billy PartridgeThis year I decided it was time I started to do whatever I could to help those less fortunate than myself. I work at The Lowry in Salford Quays which is in itself a charitable organisation. I joined the Mission Malawi 3 team having spoken to Dave Armstrong about his experiences on the last trip. I am never without my bike so this sounded perfect for me! The dedication of the team and the amount of money that had been raised to fund HIV/AIDS projects working in Malawi is amazing. I feel very proud to say that I am now a part of the team. Please do whatever you can to support us. Sponsor me |

Those of you that know me will know that I enjoy the wind in my beard as I'm speeding through the congestion zone on my bike (paying due attention to traffic signals). As soon as I heard that some friends were taking part in a 500km ride through Malawi and Mozambique in support of ActionAid I knew it would be the most exciting and challenging way to raise much needed funds for the projects that ActionAid is running. I have to raise a huge amount of money and really appreciate all the support you can offer |

Nick McKennaI have a strong affinity for all things Malawi, having spent my formative years growing up there as a child; it was truly a wonderful and exotic place to be at that age, I volunteer for another project in Malawi called Temwa as well. I am really looking forward to MM4, it will be great to meet a group of people with some common values AND a sense of adventure and share such an exciting experience ... I do have some slight trepidation, given that I didn’t even have a bike when I signed up; now I have one and have started training (of a sort), for the first time I now truly understand the enormity of what I will be putting my body (and backside) through... still no pain no gain! |
Phil HamillBased in Islington, North London, I run an IT company close to Old Street which develops and runs an online dating site. I’ve lived in London since 1997. I’m originally from the North West. I am very much looking forward to participating in Mission Malawi in 2009. A colleague of mine was involved in Mission Malawi 2 in 2006 and he was a huge influence on my decision to take part in Mission Malawi IV. This is my first opportunity of being able to be involved in such a challenge, and I am extremely excited at the prospects of raising money for such a worthwhile cause. |

Shane LyonThis is a very big challenge for me. It's a gruelling cycle ride along the shores of lake Malawi and Mozambique - a of a feet for someone who hasn't been on a bike since he left school - seriously! Friends who have been on previous Mission Malawi's have returned with inspiring stories of what a beautiful Country Malawi how friendly its people are. They come home with an amazing sense of achievement and well-being. It's a humbling experience and something they will never forget. The money raised will help some of the many millions of people in Africa who are strugling to cope with the day to day effects of HIV / AIDS. So please sponsor me as much as you possibly can! |

Tim MansonHi, I'm Tim and I'm currently on a gap year between my A-levels and university in Manchester next year and conveniently am working for Evans cycles in Canary Wharf. I wanted to do something productive and help those less fortunate than ourselves in my gap year instead of just lounging on the sofa playing Xbox. Luckily I discovered Mission Malawi 4 giving me a chance to combine cycling and raising money for a good cause a perfect combination. I caught the cycling bug doing the London to Brighton in the summer which was quickly followed by London to Paris a couple of weeks after, I'm now planning MM and hopefully the Lands End to John O'Groats trip. Mission Malawi is a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness and indeed money to help those suffering from poverty and AIDS/HIV in Malawi. Even the smallest of donations can be stretched a long way bigger ones can be used to reach even more people but any donation means a lot and is greaty appreciated. Many thanks |
