Project Details

Nyambi Community Based Organisation

NyambiNyambi AIDS support organization. Formed in 1994, this organization covers a catchment area of 40 villages, and population of over 50,000, and is run almost entirely by 49 volunteers. Their aim is to fight Aids by giving the community the facts they need about the dangers of HIV in order to reduce its spread. They focus on counseling, orphan care and home based care.

They are engaged in many different types of activities like farming, raising crops and fish, to a bakery project, all of which help to grow the money they are awarded to go even further.

The funds donated by Mission Malawi have been used to construct a resource centre which will be used as a library for people to access information on HIV/AIDS, to train volunteers in voluntary counseling and testing campaigns, with the aim of encouraging people to visit these centres to establish their HIV status.
There was also training for 32 local youths in vocational skills including tailoring, carpentry and tin smithing. The aim will be for these skills to enable orphaned youth to establish skilled professions to enable them to support their families in the long-term.
